TECHNICAL INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR ATTENU8 BATTENS FOR FFT1 AND FFT3 ON E-FC-1, E-FC-2, E-FC-7 AND E-FS-1 ROBUST DETAIL SEPARATING FLOORS
- Acoustic isolation strip should be installed around the perimeter of each room which can be held in place by stapling to the plasterboard.
In the event of the building not being boarded at the time of installation a rip liner should be installed which compromises plasterboard of the same thickness as on walls which would be a minimum depth of 10mm more than the finished floor height.
- Attenu8 Acoustic Batten should be installed around the perimeter of each room 50mm from the wall with Attenu8 Acoustic Battens at no more than 400mm centres perpendicular (at right angles) to the direction of the joists. This spacing relates to living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hall with battens being placed down to 300mm centres for shower rooms, bathrooms and kitchens.
Shower Rooms and Bathrooms
A full platform of Battens should be installed under the location of WC pans to give support for the additional loading.
Kitchens
A Batten should be positioned under the leading edge of all base units to give additional support.
Doorways
Create a ladder of Battens using off cuts between the perimeter batten of adjacent rooms to give under joists situated in doorways.
A layer of 18mm tongued and grooved chipboard is laid at 900 over the Battens, adhesive should be applied to the tops of the battens. Ensure that the expansion gap at the perimeter is maintained. Edges on the short sides of the board must join on a batten. All joints of the chipboard should be tight butted and glued with good quality PVA adhesive. The boards are then screwed down using countersunk wood screws. Perimeter fixings on the long edge of the board should not exceed 600mm. Fixing centres along the battens should be at 300mm and 150mm from the long edge perimeter. Where boards join on the short edges they should be screwed down in two places both sides of the join.
The chipboard must butt up to the flanking strip around the perimeter of each room with the excess flanking strip turned over the top face of the chipboard and lightly stapled into place. The flanking strip should isolate all hard surfaces and prevent contact between the chipboard against the wall and equally between the skirting and the chipboard. Any excess flanking strip can be trimmed off flush with the front face off the skirting. Acoustic sealant should now be applied along the join. |
